(EJNews) – The Jewish National Fund of Edmonton (JNF Edmonton) will be hosting a very special Negev Gala on Thursday June 23, 2016 honouring Dr. James Shapiro, an Edmonton-based pioneer in diabetes research. The event will be held at the Timms Centre for the Arts at the University of Alberta and includes a delicious kosher gourmet reception. Send your RSVP in today to jnfedmonton.ca.
The event will feature as a special guest and keynote speaker, Colonel Adam Sussman, Israel’s first Military Attaché to Canada. Canada and Israel enjoy close military relations at all levels, including co-operation in the areas of counter-terrorism, training, search and rescue, intelligence, command and control and new technologies. A key part of Col. Susman’s job is to facilitate those exchanges and foster the relationship between the Canadian military and Israeli defence industries.
“The relationship between Canada and Israel is very good,” notes Col. Sussman. “There is quite a lot of co-operation between the countries and the militaries.”
His appointment as military attaché reflects the friendly relationship between the two countries and reciprocates Canada’s posting of a full-time defence attaché in Tel Aviv.
The evening is sure to be a wonderful combination of entertainment and information. Master of Ceremonies for the Negev Gala will be former Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel and the Honourary Chair is Norman Schayer. The gala is being co-hosted by the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Institute of Medical Research Israel-Canada.
The Negev Gala will begin at 5:30 pm on June 23, with a gourmet reception and the exceptional programme will commence at 7 pm. A dessert reception will follow the programme so there will be plenty of time and opportunity to visit with friends and colleagues and also to meet the speakers and honoured guests. Kashrut will be observed.
